" When I was 15, I asked my mother what other names did she pick out for me when I was born. I was thinking that if I was ever blessed with another son, I would consider giving him one of those names. I already knew that my first born would carry my name. Mother looked me in my eyes and began to tell me the most amazing story.
"Your name was supposed to be Xavier because I thought that the "X" was a powerful letter in the alphabet."
Since I was born in 69 but conceived in 68, my parents were in the heart of the civil rights movement; the sound of dogs, hoses, and hatred.... I heard it all from the womb. Because Martin Luther King was killed during this time, in honor of his legacy, Mother took the name of his youngest son Dexter and gave it to me too.. Her idea was to keep me connected with my heritage! My prayer is to one day meet Dexter King ...
